Hi John

I think you understand the reasons behind this but now we need to find the solution. Clearly the Slink transition cards are vital to the delivery of working FEDs. Would a solution be to now allocate formally some staff effort in RAL ID to contribute to the delivery of the transition cards? Imperial will continue to contribute but we haven't yet got a full plan for their procurement.

I am in CERN but can call you. My suggestion would be

allocate 0.5SY of additional RAL ID effort to try to cover this

if so, any ideas suggestions of who this might best be?

discuss on Friday the logistics of the procurement and assess what effort is actually needed in RAL, and Imperial.

What do you think?

cheers

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

I met this morning with Tony and Tim to go through this version of the draft Agreement.

Tony has only a few minor amendments to make.

But first I will propose a payment schedule which matches our expected execution schedule.

The one issue that still troubles us is the linking of the SLINK Transition cards (for which CCLRC can't take liability) with the FEDs.

Particularly with regards to the Payment schedule.  i.e. if, for whatever reason, the SLINK cards were not delivered with the FEDs then CCLRC wouldn't get paid.

We would like somehow to decouple these items in the Agreement.

Happy to discuss further on Monday.

Best regards  John

ps I have received the final comments on the eXception contract and will pass a final version for release to the company via Lindsay on Monday. I will cc you a copy.

I will be at Calne on Tuesday to review the pre-series production.

Hi John

Here is the last version. The latest change was to add 534k from M&OB which means that there is a 301kCHF shortfall to cover the estimated cost of the order. I will prepare a spreadsheet rather than trying to put all the numbers in a mail. I propose to loan this until the funding is properly in place so the contract can be placed.

My only concern now is that the contract speaks of Phase I&II (R&D + 350 FEDs) and Phase III (150 FEDs). Of course we want to place a contract for 500 straight away so I am checking with Achille.

I leave it to you if you want already to discuss with Tony. Clearly we need to clarify a few more points but I hope we are almost there.

I haven't forgotten the S-link cards but hope this can also be accommodated.

I can talk with you this afternoon.

cheers

Geoff

Dear all,

please find enclosed a new version which has the following modifications wrt the April 22 (last sent) version:

1) Funding agencies participating have been detailed. This can be removed from the final version, but it is useful to fully understand the funding

2) Total contribution updated to 3.855 MCHF following point 1) above

3) Changed the deadline for CERN to give notice to RAL for the beginning of Phase III from November 2005 to July 2005 (so we might fold back together Phase II and Phase III eventually, but I kept them separate for the time being)

Please let me know if these mods are OK for everybody and if we can start discussing on this basis with RAL.

This would be next Tuesday as Monday CERN is shut.

Cheers,

Achille
